Commissioning & Operations Lead Engineer

Position Type: Full-time Regular Employee
Location: Lisbon/Aix En Provence with ability to quickly relocate to Spain or UK

Education Required:  Master’s degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or similar

Position Start: ASAP


General Description

The Commissioning and Operations Lead Engineer is part of the Operations and Maintenance group, reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Manager.
The focus of the work will be the planning and execution of commissioning activities for new built projects.  For projects under operation he/she will be the first level engineer to provide technical knowledge regarding inspection, maintenance, and repair activities.


Main Accountabilities

  • Ensure that commissioning activities can be executed in Quality and in compliance with HSE

  • Plan commissioning activities of new built projects

  • Supervise (external) teams executing the commissioning activities at the fabrication yard, in the marshalling and installation harbor as well as offshore.

  • Plan and optimize operation, maintenance inspection and repair activities for PPIs long term service contracts

  • Provide cross-functional feedback to engineering, project management and sales to improve PPIs value proposition to the customer and the project’s stakeholder



        The Commissioning and Operations Lead Engineer will have the following main external and internal interfaces:

  • report as part of the project team to the Project manager

  • report to the Operation and Maintenance Lead as line manager

  • direct internal and external teams regarding the execution of commissioning and operations, maintenance, inspection and repair activities

  • interact with the Customer and other stakeholder in the project or the service contract to coordinate the activities

  • interact closely with the HSE, engineering, fabrication and operation & maintenance team to prepare and execute the commissioning and operations, maintenance, inspection and repair activities

  • interact with Certification and Class societies


        Planning Phase

  • Planning of the different commissioning phases in shipyards, installation harbors and offshore

  • Preparing high level and detailed plans and work instruction

  • Support in the selection and contracting of external service providers

  • Support the project team at the interface to customer, other project stakeholders and equipment vendors

  • Provide guidance to PPI’s engineering to improve the Windfloat products value

  • Develop and update Risk Assessments and Method Statements


       Execution Phase

  • Lead and supervise the internal and external commissioning technicians at the different project locations

  • Perform commissioning activities

  • Support troubleshooting activities

  • Support operations, maintenance, inspection and repair activities

  • Ensure QHSE for the team and the activities executed

  • Ensuring that the project is executed on time and on budget

  • Provision of regular internal and external reporting


Required Education

  • Master’s degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or similar


Required Professional Experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Commissioning, Systems Integration

  • Experience with Safety Systems (Permit to work, lock-out, tag out)

  • Experience of work on construction site and/or shipyards


Required Knowledge

  • In depth knowledge of instrumentation, automation, electrical and mechanical systems and the systems integration

  • Pumping, piping and hydraulic systems

  • Configuration and Troubleshooting of IT and Network systems

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


Other Requirements

  • Ability to produce clear and well written Engineering Documents in English

  • Ability to interface with multiple business units including various engineering discipline, namely, fabrication

  • Willingness to adjust to the requirements and opportunities of global work groups

  • Willingness to travel to the commissioning sites as part of the planning and execution

  • Customer-minded and collaborative, with strong interpersonal, negotiation and leadership skills;

  • Ability to read and follow and interpret both contract requirements and engineering documentation

  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork, Inherent leadership skills and self-motivated

  • Multiple language skills are a plus

  • Ability to learn in fast-paced environment and deliver high-quality results to co-workers and external partners.

  • Comfortable with multicultural and multinational environments.

  • Certified to Work at heights and confined spaces
