Cost Engineer, Commercial

Position Type: Full-time, Fix Term Contract
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree preferably in STEM+F (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Finance) education

General Description

We are looking for a Cost Engineer, who is passionate about offshore wind technologies and enjoys the unique challenges of growing business in an emerging industry. You will join Principle Power’s Commercial organization, a high-performing and dynamic team that is focused on positioning Principle Power as the global leader in the emerging floating wind sector.


Main Accountabilities

  • Develop cost and pricing estimates (CAPEX and OPEX) for existing and prospective WindFloat projects in global markets; work with Principle Power engineering, customers, and suppliers recommend actions to optimize costs

  • Develop LCOE estimates for existing and prospective WindFloat projects in global markets; work with engineering, customers, and suppliers to recommend actions to optimize lifecycle costs

  • Create and mature techno-economic models to estimate the cost and LCOE of WindFloat technology applications with various site, market, and turbine configurations

  • Interface with relevant internal groups (Engineering and Technology) to conduct cost benefits analysis.

  • Develop and maintain of technical and economic databases to track WindFloat design details and commercial bids obtained in the market

  • Apply databases and models to answer key strategic questions related to WindFloat technology and commercialization roadmap:

    • Process optimization (fabrication, installation, O&M)

    • LCOE competitive analysis

    • LCOE impact assessment of technical R&D opportunities

  • Work with technical and BD teams to structure product/project offerings, plan and budget for success, build winning proposals, and negotiate commercial contracts 

  • Other functions as required under the Commercial Area.


Required Professional Experience:

  • 2+ years of professional experience, or education equivalent

  • Experience with offshore energy/offshore wind will be viewed favorably


 Required Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of renewable energy/power sector economics

  • Proficiency with financial valuation concepts

  • Familiarity with offshore wind technology

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; Familiarity with programming (e.g., Matlab, Python) and database systems are advantages

  • Exceptional written communications and presentation skills

  • Languages: Fluent in English required (Principle Power’s working language); Other languages a plus (namely in markets where we are present)
