We are looking for a self-motivated business developer who is passionate about offshore wind and enjoys the unique challenge of growing/shaping novel technology in a nascent market environment. You will join a high-performing and dynamic team that is focused on maintaining Principle Power position as the global leader in the emerging floating wind sector.
The Senior Business Development Manager (SBDM) is responsible for leading Principle Power’s BD activities within the key market/region of Southern Europe with potential extension to ME an Africa region. She/he will lead the early positioning and pursuit of the opportunities in the market to secure pipeline for Principle Power’s WindFloat® technology and will negotiate associated service and license agreements.
The position is located within Principle Power’s Commercial organization and will report to the VP Business Development (VP BD) as part of a team of 5-6 people located in key markets around the world, supported by a central Hub organization located in Lisbon, Portugal. The SBDM will contribute towards achieving Principle Power’s ambitious plans for expansion and market leadership within the floating offshore wind sector.
Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and other stakeholders in the offshore wind industry to position Principle Power for opportunities
Identify and secure opportunities for the WindFloat, including through partnerships, early engineering/service engagements, invitations to tender, and prequalification for RFQs
Ensure interests and favorable role and position of Principle Power with the client/developer before the project goes to the market
Collaborate with global team of business developers to prioritize opportunities, develop win strategies, and define market entry strategies; With VP of Business Development, develop and implement strategic plan to meet/support regional and global revenue targets
Ensure Client key drivers, organization, plans, and specifications/expectations are fully understood, including the required customization of services to address specific technical challenges and/or objectives
Lead and coordinate proposal process with Engineering and Project Management to timely meet Client and internal requirements; contribute to continuous improvement of such processes through the VP BD
Report opportunities and track deals using tools such as Principle Power’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to maximize potential business and minimize lost opportunities; Contribute to order intake reporting, sales forecasts, and business planning.
Feedback market, client, and competitive intel. to central Strategy organization; collaborate with Strategy and Public Affairs to define analysis, tools, products, and materials to support BD success within region.
Provide leadership for key strategic events, including customer visits, technical workshops, & conferences
Represent the company, contribute to thought leadership, and advocate for strategic priorities through presentations and workshops (webinars, conferences, meetings, and other relevant events)
Work with the VP Business Development, contract managers, and the Legal department to structure and negotiate MOU’s, partnerships, and other commercial agreements
Other activities as needed in related disciplines
Bachelor’s degree; Masters or MBA preferred
Required Professional Experience:
8 + years proven experience in BD, Sales, Development, Consulting, or similar
Proven experience in business development and sales
Experience with technology focused companies and comfort in project environments
Experience with offshore energy/offshore wind will be viewed favorably
Background/competencies in technical fields such as offshore engineering, naval architecture and/or offshore wind project development/delivery will be viewed favorably
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and CRM tools
Commercial acumen and experience negotiating contracts
Strong written communications and presentation skills
Deep knowledge of local market (policy, regulations, business practice, etc.)
Languages: Fluent in English required (Principle Power’s working language); Fluency in French and Spanish preferred. Other languages a plus (namely in markets where we are present)
Ability to work across cultures and in different geographies
Self-motivated, pioneering and independent with energy/creativity to build presence in an emerging industry
Team player with commitment to building deep connections and networks within the organization (despite geographic separation)
Customer-minded and collaborative, with strong interpersonal and negotiation competencies
Comfort distilling complex technical concepts to audiences with various degrees of sophistication
Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Ability to travel 30% + (assuming return to normal in post-Covid-19 environment)
Authorization to work in the relevant market
Compliant with, and advocate for, Principle Power’s Business Ethics and HSE policies
Willingness to bridge the time gap between US and Europe or Europe and Asia as may be required.
